All About Food

At Muhlenberg, we talk the talk and walk the walk. All of our food is served at the peak of freshness with our menus based on the seasonality and availability of fresh, locally grown products. We only partner with sustainability minded, ethical vendors.

Farmers Market Fall 2016

Farmers_Market_F16_2

On September 15th from 11AM to 4PM, Muhlenberg College hosted its Fall 2016 Farmers Market on the College Green. The market was organized by Muhlenberg College’s Environmental Action Team (EnAcT) and sponsored by Muhlenberg Dining. This was the second Farmers Market organized by EnAcT and the organization hopes to bring the market to school once a semester. Seven farms from the Lehigh Valley (BAD Farms, Bleilers Produce Patch, Crooked Row Farm, Knee High Farm, Red Cat Farm, Ridge Valley Farm, and Schocarie Ridge Apiary) visited campus, offering a variety of products and produce including honey, tea, maple syrup, smoothies, kombucha, vegetables and more. EnAcT organized the market in order to support local farmers, as well as to educate the Muhlenberg Community on the importance of eating locally.

New ComponentCommon Market - Philadelphia

In the spring of 2015, Muhlenberg received its first delivery from Common Market, a Philadelphia based food distributor that connects wholesale customers to farmers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Common Market sources local produce, meat and dairy offerings from Lehigh, Bucks and Berks counties. By sourcing our food locally, Muhlenberg Dining reduces transportation expenses and our environmental footprint. We are excited about this new partnership because it means even more local produce available at all of the dining locations on campus.

Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative

landinglogoIn Summer 2013, we embarked on a mission to further expand our procurement of local produce. Thanks to the tireless efforts of several individuals, led by Muhlenberg’s Executive Chefs, a new partnership was born with Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative
LFFC is a non-profit, organic farmers' cooperative of 75 farmers in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (approximately 70 miles from Muhlenberg). Each week LFFC delivers a fresh bounty of produce, most of which is picked the day prior to delivery.

CSA with Kneehigh FarmKnee High Logo

Beginning in Spring 2015, Muhlenberg College partnered with Kneehigh Farm to offer membership to the farm's Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA. By joining the CSA, members directly support the local farm's operation and gain access to fresh, seasonal and organically grown produce.  For more information about Kneehigh Farm or its CSA, please visit their website.
